Nila X Injiri Patchwork cushion

The Nila x Injiri Patchwork Mattress is the result of a collaboration between Nila and Chinar Farooqui, the designer of artisanal womenswear and home textile label, Injiri.  

Nila’s handwoven, naturally dyed upholstery textiles in various iterations of classic stripes were given to Chinar and her studio to interpret into their signature floor mattress designs. Injiri’s creative patch-working of the textiles using hand-stitching techniques, adopted a zero-waste approach to production very much in line with Nila’s design philosophy. Their signature handmade tassels are dyed in natural indigo. Every piece is slightly unique - an intuitive and creative response that is at the heart of patch-working by hand.  

The floor mattress is a traditional Rajasthani design, usually placed over charpais - simple, woven beds still used in villages to sleep outside when the heat sets in. Easy to roll up and light to carry, the mattress makes for beautiful outdoor seating, perfect for sunny afternoons with friends.

Natural indigo is a millennia-old plant dye. The alchemy of earth, water, air, and indigo leaves creates an unpredictable beauty. The rich natural colour of the indigo textile may fade slightly over time, with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
