Shade 3 Napkin
Nila’s handwoven linen napkins are classic bestsellers from our perennial collection. Shade 3 - meaning 3 dips in an indigo vat - is a beautiful and versatile blue at the centre of the Nila indigo spectrum. The yarns were dyed in Maharasthra using purely natural processes. Linen, usually woven on heavy-duty factory machines, changes structure considerably when adapted to handloom. The openness of the weave lends these napkins a textured lightness and breathability. The weaving was carried out by the Kanhirode Weavers’ Cooperative Society in Kerala. The weavers are mostly female and elderly; they all take a share of profits. The generous hems are finished with mitred corners, sitiched by the women of this social enterprise. The napkin will soften with regular washing. Once ironed, the fabric regains its original crispness. Pair with any of our handwoven Shades of Blue Tablecloths.
Hand wash gently with cold water and line dry in the shade. Natural indigo is a millennia-old plant dye. The alchemy of earth, water; air, and indigo leaves creates an unpredictable beauty.
Please handle this precious piece with care, and it may last you a lifetime. Wash separately for the first few washes. The rich natural colour may fade slightly over time, with exposure to direct sunlight.
