The Bhujodi Quilt is the result of a special collaboration between Kutch-based weaving maestro Shamjibhai Vankar and the Nila studio. Woven with natural indigo yarn, hand-dyed at Shamjibhai’s vats, the quilt carries the traditional Bhujodi extra-weft motif, interpreted with a light, minimal touch. The soft textile panels, imbued with the goodness of natural indigo, are layered with a cotton filling, making it a lightweight but cosy quilt.
From Kutch, the panel textile was brought to Jaipur, to be hand-finished by the women associated with the Bagru chapter of Nila’s sister organisation, LBCT. The stitching training programme developed by Nila has helped the women up-skill and create livelihood opportunities through the strength of their craft.
The Bhujodi Quilt is a gesture of handmade magic and a loving, comforting addition to a young one’s nursery.
Composition and care: 100% handwoven cotton dyed with natural indigo
Natural indigo is a millennia-old plant dye. The alchemy of earth, water; air, and indigo leaves creates an unpredictable beauty. The rich natural colour may fade slightly over time, with exposure to direct sunlight.
