The stripe graphic of Japanese Boro patchwork stitching was the inspiration for Nila’s Boro cushion. Stripes of blue and white are broken up to create a pattern that finds harmony in considered irregularity. The timeless aesthetic of Japanese Boro is reimagined here, to create a piece that has a versatile, contemporary feel and rich artisanal texture with the highest quality of detailing.
The Boro cushion comes in two sizes for a beautiful and striking stacking option.
The front of the cushion has been woven in a traditional dhurrie weaving cluster outside Jaipur. The indigo has been dyed in organic vats in Maharashtra. The weaving of Nila dhurries, using natural indigo yarns and white space, involves an enormous amount of skill, as they are created on pit looms in Rajasthan and the colours need to remain separate while the weaving process continues.
In keeping with the Nila ethos, we do not finish the weave with softening chemicals as is now standard practice. The final finish of the weave is designed to be softer and more breathable than that of a traditional dhurrie, leaving this cushion smooth to the touch without using any chemical additives.
The back of the cushion is made of handwoven cotton, with an invisible zipper. Inside seams are finished with a fine, handwoven cotton piping to prevent fraying. The cushion is finished with natural indigo pompoms, handmade by women artisans in Rajasthan.

Keep away from direct sunlight
Natural indigo is a millennia-old plant dye. The alchemy of earth, water, air, and indigo leaves creates an unpredictable beauty. The rich natural colour of the indigo textile may fade slightly over time, with exposure to direct sunlight.
