Botanical Napkins (Set of 4)
Nila’s ‘Botanical’ napkins carry bespoke prints created by British artist Hugo Guinness. The artist created a series of over 60 unique floral designs, out of which, 4 were selected for the set of napkins. The delicate floral motifs were printed at the artisan studio Yusa Naturals in Ahmedabad. They expertly translated this complex design of botanical motifs with screen-printing using natural indigo in combinations of Shade 6 and Shade 3. By printing with screen instead of blocks, the natural indigo is saved from premature oxidisation and ensures colour-fastness.
The napkins are made of linen handwoven by women artisans on looms at the Kanhirode Weavers Cooperative Society in Kannur, Kerala. Over 400 spinner and weavers are affiliated with the cooperative, which is working to uplift traditional communities of weavers by championing their traditional skills, particularly spinning and weaving. The napkins were hand-stitched with mitred corners by women artisans associated with LBCT in Jaipur.
The Nila Botanical napkins make for a special gift to a space, celebrating the beauty of handmade processes and evoking a sense of wellbeing. Pair these with our Botanical tablecloth to make a complete set of table linens or with our Shades of Blue tablecloths, for an elegant print accent to the plain handwoven textiles in shades of natural indigo.
Composition & Care
Hand wash separately in cold water. Handwoven textiles may carry subtle irregularities; this is a part of the beauty of textiles made by hand. The napkin will soften with regular washing. Once ironed, the fabric will regain its original crispness.
