Constellation jamdani

The Constellation jamdani textile is a fresh, contemporary interpretation of the iconic extra-weft weaving technique from West Bengal. The bespoke extra-weft design, created in the Nila studio, is inspired by the night sky – a subtle, dreamy pattern of stars and phases of the moon, woven into a diaphanous white base of buttery, breathable cotton.

This jamdani textile has been woven on handlooms at the famous weaving cluster of Phulia in West Bengal. Indigo yarn, dyed six times over at a natural indigo vat to reach the deep hue of Shade 6, has been used for the extra-weft designs. It takes great skill and patience to weave the fine, detailed pattern of a textile such as the Constellation jamdani.

Light and gentle against the skin, this fabric is ideal for elegant summer clothing, sleepwear or perhaps a hand-quilted blanket for a new-born.
