The Kalbelia are one of the largest nomad communities in Rajasthan. Their rich traditions of dance and music have represented Rajasthan’s cultural tourism for decades. Equally special though less well known are kalbelia textiles, particularly the quilted ‘gudris’.

Mewa Sapera is an internationally travelled kalbelia artist and gudri expert from Jaipur. Her tremendous knowledge of her community’s increasingly rare textile heritage has inspired her to become a vocal advocate for its revival.

This workshop is a rare opportunity to learn the history, stories and craft techniques of the kalbelia community from a master artist like Mewa Sapera. With an option to attend on either Saturday or Sunday, the day-long workshop will be an immersive experience that will give you an in-depth feel for this textile craft as well as a hands-on experience of its technical beauty. At the end of the session, you will be able take home a kalbelia textile handmade by you.

The workshop is for ages 18+. All levels of craft experience are welcome.

The workshop fee includes all materials and lunch, provided by Nila House.

Each session is limited to 5 participants.

Registration Closes on Friday 29th July.
