I Heart Nila Kaftan
‘I heart Nila’ Kaftan is a beautiful example of easy elegance. The relaxed fit of the kaftan, designed with a roomy, kangaroo pocket on the left, perfectly compliments the airy, breathable nature of the fabric. The kaftan gets its name from the double-heart motif that was specially designed at the Nila Studio as a lighter, more playful iteration of the traditionally ornate design of the extra-weft brocade.
The fabric for the kaftan was woven on pit-looms in Murshidabad, West Bengal by highly skilled weavers. Our deceptively simple double-heart weft design was expertly woven using threads in combinations of undyed white and pale blue Shade 2. The memorable lapis blue of the kaftan was achieved by multiple dips in a natural indigo vat to reach the intensity of Shade 6. The stitching of the kaftan was done by the women artisans associated with Nila’s sister organisation LBCT in Jaipur.
The unique design of the 'I heart Nila’ kaftan in diaphanous jamdani gives an updated, universal appeal to a classic textile. Several layers of slow, handmade processes go into creating the Kaftan, making it a piece to be cherished.
Composition & Care
Handwoven cotton jamdani
Hand wash separately in cold water.
Natural indigo is a millennia-old plant dye. The alchemy of earth, water; air, and indigo leaves creates an unpredictable beauty. The rich natural colour of the indigo textile may fade slightly over time, with exposure to direct sunlight.
