Infinity Jamdani
Width - 115cm
Jamdani is a highly specialized textile from West Bengal and Bangladesh, distinctive by the extra weft inlay brocade on fine cotton muslin. Nila’s jamdani textiles are handspun on ambar charkhas and woven on handlooms in the famous weaving centre of Phulia in West Bengal. Our ‘Infinity’ textile in pure cotton is a fresh, contemporary take on traditional jamdani textiles. Whilst jamdani textiles carried a heavier pattern on the border, typically for saris, a lighter, contemporary intervention of an all-over pattern allows for a more versatile interpretation of this extraordinary textile.
‘Infinity’ is an elegant, abstract motif that was developed by the Nila Studio in Jaipur as a part of our bespoke designs for naturally dyed indigo yarn. For this motif, indigo yarn was dyed six times over to reach the midnight blue of ‘Shade 6’, is used to weave the little ‘infinity’ designs into the diaphanous white base of buttery, breathable cotton. It takes great skill and patience to weave the whimsical and fine pattern of a design such as the ‘Infinity’ jamdani textile.
Light and gentle against the skin, this fabric is ideal for easy summer clothing or perhaps a hand-quilted blanket for a newborn.
