Nila’s Sampler napkins come from our experiments with mixing embroidery samples and techniques. The process of researching craft techniques has helped us created a growing library of stitch samples that are used in our collection and shared with artisan groups as design inputs. Each napkin carries a light embroidery in indigo thread along the edges in four motifs - a running vine, chevron stripe, indigo leaves and a chain of flower buds.
Made from pure cotton linen woven at Guin Handlooms in Murshidabad, West Bengal,, the mitered edges and hand-embroidery has been done at an independent artisan unit in Jaipur. The unit is run by master embroiderer Bholu, who moved to Jaipur from Uttar Pradesh to set up his embroidery unit. The unit engages four other artisans, specialising in aari, chikankari and zardosi embroidery.
Sold individually, the bespoke stitch designs can be paired in combinations of your choice. Pair the Sampler napkins with our Shades of Indigo placemats to create the perfect setting for a relaxed meal together.
Composition & Care
Pure cotton linen
Hand wash separately in cold water. Handwoven textiles may carry subtle irregularities; this is a part of the beauty of textiles made by hand. The indigo threads may fade slightly over time, with exposure to direct sunlight.
