DROP SPINDLE SPINNING
The meditative craft of spinning dates back to the very story of textiles. There are myriad spinning techniques, connected by the basic principle of twisting plant or animal fibre by hand to create yarn - the DNA of woven cloth. The drop spindle technique is a simple though skilful technique that is common in the northeast of India.
This workshop is a chance to learn the art of hand-spinning non-violent Eri silk with Kabita Kalita, a master spinner and weaver from Assam. Having exhibited her textiles at Nila House last year, Kabita will join us again in Jaipur to lead this immersive craft session.
The workshop is limited to five participants. All levels of craft experience are welcome.
The session will have a 1-hour break for lunch. Workshop fees includes all materials and lunch.
This session is a part of our three-part series on craft techniques connected to handmade textiles. The workshops are in tandem with the opening of our exhibition ‘THAAN - Hand-spinning Tomorrow’, opening at Nila House on 20th January, 2023.
