Tinctoria Charm Bracelet
This simple talisman from Nila House was created in honour of our favourite plant, Indigofera Tinctora, or indigenous Indian indigo. The indigo plant is significant not just for the rich colour it provides but also as a sustainable crop which feeds nitrogen into the soil and requires very little maintenance, and as an ancient Ayurvedic healer for skin ailments.
Our tinctoria leaf masters were made by hand in Jaipur with skilled craftsmen, after which a mould was made. The brass bases were produced with lost wax casting techniques. Each leaf is then hand filed and finished before being plated with silver.
The natural indigo dyed cotton threads were hand-tied using a macrame technique for extra strength.
This piece makes a thoughtful gift of appreciation or friendship for anyone who loves nature and sustainable principles. It is housed in a Nila House cotton or linen pouch, made from production off-cuts by the women of our sister organisation, Arke.
