The Tokyo Kaftan is an intricate zero-waste design, made from precious handwoven, natural indigo off-cuts from the Nila Studio. The design is a hybrid of two iconic garments – the structured Japanese kimono and the airy kaftan. Given the irregular nature of off-cut textiles - no two pieces are identical - each kaftan has a slightly different composition and is a unique piece.
The khadi cotton off-cuts used for the kaftan come in a range of Shade 2 to 6 from the Nila indigo rainbow. The front panel has been designed to carry the textile pieces on the lighter shade spectrum while the back is heavier on the deeper indigo blues.
The meticulous care and attention to detail of the kaftan evokes a quiet glamour, with a nod to the bohemian style of the global travellers in 1970s. With an unforgettable deep ‘V’ back and a structured yet generous cut, the Tokyo Kaftan can be worn on its own or layered over a pair of comfortable trousers such as our buttery soft Shalwar Pants . Complete the look by accessorising with the zero-waste Rice Bag.
