VILLAGE BLOUSE INDIGO
This is our next iteration of the Village Blouse, a beautiful piece of contemporary jamdani textile interpreted into a timeless wardrobe piece using intricate, subtle hand-finished detailing.
The extra-weft motif seen here is a bespoke design developed in our studio. It has been expertly translated into diaphanous, buttery soft cotton jamdani by our weaving partners in West Bengal. For this version, the indigo blue yarn of the extra weft has been dyed by in natural indigo. The soothing Indigo extra-weft motifs sit against an un-dyed, white muslin base.
To elevate the ethereal feel of the blouse, ‘jaali’ work has been used at the arms and down the front panel, in place of darts. Named after intricate Mughal stonework used in windows, the ‘jaali’ or lattice technique gives clothing a sense of lightness and fragility, simultaneously ephemeral and strong. The seams are opened up as much as possible so that each panel of the layered piece appears to float. For a touch of iridescent shine, the blouse carries a set of Mother of Pearl button down the front.
The feather light Village Blouse makes for a timeless wardrobe staple that can be styled in so many creative ways.
Composition and care:
100% handwoven cotton jamdani
Hand wash separately in cold water
The rich natural colour of the green yarn may fade slightly over time, with exposure to direct sunlight. The textile may carry subtle irregularities – this is a part of the beauty of handmade textiles.
