ZERO WASTE RUG 02

Size : 1.20 x 1.80 m

Our brand new rugs are crafted with care and sustainability in mind. They are woven by hand using fabric cut-offs from our studio productions, and scraps collected from the local katran market. Each rug is unique and the shades of blue vary slightly - from a light sky blue to a deep navy. But what makes them really special is that they are made by the expert weaver, Kallu ji, together with his family at their home in Govindgarh, just outside Jaipur.

Kallu ji learnt this specialised technique of zero-waste weaving from his father and has been practicing for over twenty-five years now. His wife, Munni Bano, expertly creates weaving strips from textile waste, which are used as the weft material. Their two sons, Idrish and Aabid, help with the weaving and finishing, as does their daughter, when she isn’t busy with her studies.

Kallu ji reached out to us to help his family find more work and we have been collaborating with them over the last few months on two zero-waste rugs. Both his rugs for Nila pair well together, making them a lovely and sustainable addition to your living space.
