Batik with Shakil

Date December 01st & 2nd
11 am to 5pm IST

Join us for a two-day workshop exploring Batik; a wax-resist dyeing craft where patterns are created with wax and later dyed to reveal intricate crackled effects. Practised for generations, Batik carries with it stories of exchange, heritage, and creativity.

This workshop will be led by Shakil Ahmed, a sixth-generation artisan from the Khatri community, who learnt the craft from his father at the age of thirteen. Shakil believes in creating “moments instead of prints”; a philosophy reflected in his vision to revive natural dyeing in batik through his contemporary explorations of colour and form.

Experience the beauty of batik firsthand with Shakil, as he shares the intricacies of this timeless craft using natural indigo. All materials will be provided, and lunch will be served to participants on both days.
