Ink Edge Coasters
Nila’s ‘Ink Edge’ coasters are made from banana fibre, handwoven into an intricate chain pattern and finished with a border dipped in indigo, giving them a striking, inky blue outline. The set of four coasters comes with a matching sleeve for easy storage. Made entirely of natural materials and handmade processes, the coasters are a beautiful and sustainable addition to a table setting.
The Ink Edge coasters are woven by the women associated with The Kishkinda Trust in Anegudi, along the Tungabhadra river in Karnataka. Whilst the region has an abundance of semi-tropical flora and fauna, the skills of weaving with natural fibres like Banana and river grass are relatively new to the region. The Kishkinda Trust saw an opportunity to generate livelihoods through the rich natural resources available and has since worked closely with communities in Anegudi to promote natural fibre-based crafts. This has been a particularly valuable source of economic empowerment for the women in the area, who work are able from their homes, seamlessly weaving their craft practices with the multitude of roles they are expected to take on.
Nila’s collaboration with The Kishkinda Trust supports highly sustainable products with quality, contemporary design. The Ink Edge placemat can be paired with our matching Ink Edge coasters for an environmentally friendly and effortlessly elegant table setting.
