SKY JAMDANI DRESS

The Sky Jamdani Dress is crafted from lightweight handwoven cotton that is soft and breathable. Its light shade of indigo makes it an easy piece for everyday wear, whether worn on its own or layered through the seasons. Small details of hand embroidery are scattered , recalling the movement of birds across an open sky. 

Drawing inspiration from traditional Jamdani motifs, the design was developed by the Nila Studio and brought to life by skilled weavers in West Bengal using the intricate extra-weft Jamdani weaving technique on pit looms. Before weaving, the yarns are dyed in natural indigo vats in Sawantwadi. The soft sky-blue hue is achieved through a few careful immersions in the vat, with each dip gradually building the colour. The deeper Twilight Jamdani Dress undergoes many more immersions, resulting in a richer indigo that reflects the depth of the dyeing process.

The dress is stitched in Jaipur and finished with handmade tassels crafted from naturally dyed cotton yarn. Every stage of its making reflects the coming together of artisans across India and the craft traditions of handspinning, natural dyeing, weaving, and embroidery.
