Twilight Jamdani Dress

The Twilight Jamdani Dress is crafted from a lightweight handwoven cotton that is soft and breathable. Its deep indigo colour and timeless silhouette make it a versatile piece that transitions with ease from day to evening, growing softer and more beautiful with every wear. Fine hand embroidery is dispersed across like the first stars appearing in the evening - emerging from the rich indigo without overpowering the weave.

Drawing inspiration from traditional Jamdani motifs, the design was developed by the Nila Studio and brought to life by skilled weavers in West Bengal using the intricate extra-weft weaving technique on pit looms. Before weaving, the yarns are dyed in natural indigo vats in Sawantwadi. The rich twilight blue is achieved through repeated immersions in the indigo vat, with each dip gradually building layers of colour. This slow, patient process creates the remarkable depth and tonal richness unique to naturally dyed indigo. In contrast, the lighter Sky Jamdani Dress is created with fewer dips, resulting in its soft, airy blue.

The dress is stitched in Jaipur and finished with handmade tassels crafted from naturally dyed cotton yarn. Every stage of its making reflects the coming together of artisans across India and the craft traditions of handspinning, natural dyeing, weaving, and embroidery.
